AW109 GrandNew model is based on the well-established modification of Grand helicopter. The helicopter is multipurpose, with its application range being extremely wide. First of all, this includes business aviation, private and executive air transport. Moreover, AW109 GrandNew has great potential for being used in medical and rescue services, as well as in the coast watch.
Structural and practical application features
The fuselage of AW109 GrandNew is made of advanced composite materials. Genesys Aerosystems cockpit is made of glass and equipped with a new four-axis digital autopilot. The aircraft electronics with digital on-screen display significantly reduces the workload upon pilots, as well as increases their situation awareness.
Advanced electronic systems make it possible to achieve perfect control accuracy and a high safety level.
AW109 GrandNew was the first light helicopter equipped with SVS synthetic vision system. The current topographic situation is displayed in real time under any weather conditions. It is supplemented by the terrain features alert system HTAWS, which provides detailed data and promptly informs about any change in the situation. Detailed and comprehensive information significantly increases the flight safety due to a more complete situational awareness of the pilots.
HITS (“The sky route”) system displays a three-dimensional diagram of the route compiled in accordance with the flight plan.
The innovative EVS front-view system significantly increases the situational awareness of the pilots under low visibility conditions – in the dark, thick fog or clouds, smog and dust. This also contributes to high flight safety.
AW109 GrandNew helicopter is powered by two Pratt & Whitney PW207C gas turbine engines with FADEC electronic control system. This is one of the quietest and most economical engines in this class.
High comfort level
AW109 GrandNew model is a worthy successor of the 109th family traditions in terms of thoroughly thought-out noise and vibration isolation of the passenger compartment. Due to almost no sound and vibration load a flight will surely be comfortable. Wide sliding doors (on both sides) and retractable steps with electric drive provide a comfortable boarding to and exit from the compartment.
The helicopter features a wide range of compartment design and additional equipment options. This makes it possible to use it not only as a corporate or VIP air transport, but also in emergency and medical operations, or for delivering personnel to offshore oil and gas platforms.
Certified as A Performance Class 1, AW109 GrandNew helicopter can be used efficiently and safely for flying in such dense areas as modern megacities centers, even with a nonrunning engine (OEI). Poor weather conditions (with minor exceptions) are not an obstacle either for flying on this helicopter model.
